About the Barbados Data Protection Act 2019-29

Originally passed in July 2019, the long-anticipated Barbados Data Protection Act 2019 -29 became enforceable from 31st March 2021 (except for provisions on registration of data controllers and data processors).

As a leading pioneer of data privacy and technology in the Caribbean, it is no surprise that Barbados has implemented a comprehensive data privacy law in recognition of the increasing value of data in the region. As well as protecting the digital rights of its citizens, the Barbados Data Protection Act suitably positions Barbadian companies to exchange personal information easily with counterparts in the EU and the US.
